US Land Logs

Hello! We are Mark and Judy Handley and we are sailing around the world aboard our Tayana Vancouver 42 named Windbird. Windbird is heading into the third season of her journey. If you would like to join us in our adventure, you can check out our Travel Logs on this website. The logs are sent daily to our website through HAM radio. On most days there are photos to go along with the logs, but those are posted only when we come to land and find high-speed internet. So if you are interested in seeing the photos, you have to revisit the site from time to time to check back and see if the photos have been uploaded. If there is a photo at the end of a log, just double click on it and you will be taken to the whole album for that day. A new thing for us this past season was the addition of a digital underwater camera. We find the life underwater absolutely fascinating and share that with you through our underwater photos posted with our logs.

At the end of our first season of cruising we said on this website that we didn't believe a second year of cruising could possibly be as magical as the first. But we were wrong. It just gets better and better. In that first magical year, Windbird sailed over 14,000 miles from Boston through the Caribbean, across the South Pacific, and ended the first season in New Zealand. The second year of our voyage took us from New Zealand to Fiji where we spent three months visiting her friendly islands.

We then sailed to Vanuatu and spent two wonderful months exploring the most unique country we have visited to date. Volcanoes, traditional cultural festivals, and welcoming villages made our stay there very special.

Late in the season we made our way to New Caledonia and spent a month between the main island of Grande Terre and the beautiful Loyalty Islands and Isles of Pines. We never knew that there were so many colors of blue.

We arrived in Bundaberg on the east coast of Australia in late October 2007 and after a month; we left Windbird in the capable hands of the folks at the Bundaberg Port Marina and spent five months back in the United States visiting with family. Our one and only grand baby Sam is now well over a year old and he held our rapt attention for the entire time we were home. The only downside to world cruising for us is that we can't take our family with us, so the visits home are a must for us.

The third season of our voyage will take us up the east coast of Australia and over the top to Darwin and then through Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. So join us by reading our daily logs. We only hope you enjoy the "Voyage of Windbird" as much as we do!
